WBBA update 6/3 – ACTION NEEDED

Hello Bears Baseball Family – if you haven’t seen the attached document already, please take a look. There is a lot to digest, so the following is our best attempt to clarify what this means for all of our players, as well as the direction and stance we’re taking as an organization. PLEASE carefully read the info below and do your part to take action by June 5th at the latest.

Traveling Update

The Gopher State League “as we know it” has been canceled, so we have requested a refund for our league fees from MYAS. Our traveling teams are now going through the process of deciding whether to register for a new/alternative MYAS league that would run from July 6 – August 15, or simply continue to practice and attempt to schedule ad hoc games in June/July. Teams may also choose to simply disband if there is a lack of player interest/commitment. We are asking traveling teams to make this decision no later than June 5th. Please communicate your decision to your head coach. Any traveling player who opts out by the 5th will get a refund of their registration fee less a $25 admin charge. For teams that stay together in any form or fashion, refunds, if any, won’t be determined until their season is completed.

In-House Update

As the document states, it’s possible that games could be allowed by June 15th. However, to be crystal clear, there are no guarantees of any games being played, and this is completely beyond the control of WBBA since we are at the mercy of gathering size limits as determined by the state. WBBA’s goal is to offer our in-house players as much baseball as possible, but we also don’t know what kind of appetite there is for an in-house season with potentially no games. Additionally, all parents will be required to sign a waiver that holds WBBA harmless from any COVID-related ramifications before their child is allowed to take the field (traveling teams have already done this). Based on this we are asking each in-house family to make a choice:

  • Opt out no later than June 5th, and receive a refund less an admin fee ($5 for 7/8, $20 for 9-12). To opt out, click here and complete the form.
  • Opt in, simply by doing nothing or if you haven't registered please do so. On June 6th, we will begin examining our numbers at each age group and assessing how many coaches we still have along with how many coaches we would need to recruit. Our goal would be to have all kids placed on a team no later than June 12th so that we could get moving with practices, and hopefully games soon thereafter. Refunds, if any, won’t be determined until the season is completed.

If you have yet to register for in-house and still wish to do so, registration will remain open through June 5th. Click here to register now.

North Star & Senior League Update

North Star and Senior League players have the option of opting out no later than June 5th. They will receive a refund less a $20 admin fee. To opt out, click here and complete the form. All players who remain registered on June 6th will be placed on a team depending on coach availability. These teams will then decide whether to practice only or register for the MYAS league. Additionally, all parents will be required to sign a waiver that holds WBBA harmless from any COVID-related ramifications before their child is allowed to take the field (traveling teams have already done this). Refunds, if any, won’t be determined until the season is completed. If you have yet to register for North Star or Senior League and still wish to do so, registration will remain open through June 5th. Click here to register now for North Star. Click here to register now for Senior League.

Financial Update

The refund amounts listed above were arrived upon through a thorough analysis of WBBA’s financial situation. The dollar amounts ensure WBBA’s solvency through January of 2021 and are meant to be a proportionate representation of each league & age-level contribution to our overall operating costs. Any player who has already canceled their registration and received a refund will be refunded the difference, if any, to align with the above dollar amounts. Should any family be experiencing financial hardship and require a full refund, please let us know, as we have a limited budget set aside to address those situations. Conversely, if any family would like to commit their registration fees to WBBA as a tax deductible donation in lieu of a refund, please let us know, and rest assured the money will be put to good use.

Thank you all for your attention to this matter, and regardless of your decision on baseball in 2020, we appreciate and value your support of White Bear Baseball.
