Braves 2011 Team News

Braves Pour it on the Brewers, 23-6!

06/14/2011, 6:06am (CDT)
By Mike

The White Bear Braves posted their highest run total of the year in a 23-6 victory over the Brewers. The offensive attack was led by Ben who hit a grand slam to go with 5 RBIs. Ethan, Bennett, Michael, and Spencer each scored three runs or more. In addition, Charlie, Ben, Spencer and Patrick each had multiple hits during the game. Finally, Kirby got his first hit of the year.  Way to go Kirby!  The defense was led by excellent pitching performances by James, Bennett, Spencer, and Shane. Ben also had three putouts at first base in one inning which ties a record!!  Overall, the team worked together well in the field by hitting their cutoffs, communicating, and catching fly balls.  Great job Braves!

Braves Lose Hard Fought Game to Cubs 10-8

06/10/2011, 4:44am (CDT)
By Mike

The White Bear Braves played well in a 10-8 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday night.  The Braves were in the game all the way to the end.  Down by two runs entering the final inning, the Braves mounted a strong comeback by loading the bases.  Unfortunately, Cubs pitchers shut the door before they could score.  Liam led the offensive attack with two hits, a walk, and two RBIs.  The Braves had strong pitching efforts from Bennett, Patrick, and Spencer.   The team will have the weekend off before facing the Brewers on Monday night.

Braves News & Notes

By Coaches Brian, Barry, and James

Good Afternoon Braves Fans --

I wanted to update everyone on a couple of housekeeping items:

1) I will be cancelling practice this Saturday

2) Fund Raising cards are due back to the league next week.  Please make every effort to return them to Marion Hunner or myself as soon as you can, and no later than next Monday's game (6/13).  I am open to making other arrangements to get the cards back, so let me know.

3) Everyone received their son's baseball pic's last night.  I have order forms if you are interested in ordering addtional photos (indv, team, magnets, buttons, etc).  Please let me know

4) The coaches and I noticed that the team was not quite into some of the games lately, so we are starting a new incentive for each game.  The end result is two-fold; get everyone into the game, paying attention and excited, and to build leaders.  Last night Bennett and Patrick won the award (a roll of Bubble Tape gum) for calling out game situations on defense, encouraging their teammates on the field and at bat, and staying positive all on their own.  As coaches, one of the main goals we have is for the boys to have fun and enjoy/learn the game, and that's really tough to do when they don't know what's going on, and aren't supporting their team.

5) Finally, please visit our team page on the WBBA website regularly.  Mike Cogan has been great in keeping it updated with regular news, but is now going to start posting game results, and a brief list of highlights.  Be sure to check it out!!
Thanks for the support and see you tomorrow to take on the Cubs!
